At risk of sounding like a crazy cat lady (who am I kidding, I AM a crazy cat lady), let me tell you about my cat. Yoshi was born on August 2, 2007. The mommy cat gave birth to him in a shoebox full of video games, which is where his name comes from. Sadly, he was orphaned at 2 weeks old, so I fed him kitten milk with a tiny little bottle until he was old enough to eat cat food. I had to help him do his “bathroom business” by wiping his tush with a warm wet cotton ball after every feeding. Understandably, he’s still my “baby” almost seven years later.
Cats are considered “senior” anywhere between 7-10 years old, depending on whom you ask, meaning that Yoshi will be a senior on his next birthday, as hard as that is for me to believe. (My cat Josie lived to the ripe old age of 17, so 7 years old is still just a baby in my mind). And pet owners know that dietary needs change as your pets age.
When I heard about Petbrosia, I was interested in trying it to help Yoshi be his healthiest. Petbrosia’s mission is to improve the well-being of dogs, cats, and families by providing products that better meet their needs. They provide individually designed pet foods for your pet’s unique nutritional needs to support healthy living throughout your pet’s lifespan.
I really like that they tailor the blend of food they send to your pet to meet his/her exact needs. They start by asking you a number of questions about your pet, things like age, weight, reproductive status, activity level, body condition score, and any known allergies. Then they match that information up to create a custom pet food blend with optimal levels of protein, fats, and carbohydrates. Petbrosia pet food is made of high quality all-natural ingredients. They don’t include “fillers” like corn, wheat, soy, or by-products. I compared the ingredients in Yoshi’s old food to the ingredients in his custom Petbrosia blend, and the difference was pretty astonishing! Here’s the list of the first eight ingredients from both brands:
When I received Yoshi’s custom Petbrosia blend, not only were all the ingredients listed, but the dietary information per serving and feeding guidelines for Yoshi based on his health information that I submitted. (Apparently I’ve been overfeeding him, which combined with his sedentary lifestyle easily accounts for the pudginess he’s developed around the middle in the last year or two).
Petbrosia also offers a guide to transitioning your pet to his/her new (and healthier!) food. Instead of just abruptly changing foods, which can cause digestive issues in some pets, they recommend that you slowly transition over so that the change is gentler on your pet’s system. Which is a great idea, except Yoshi, who knows what’s good for him, ate around his old food in favor of the Petbrosia food. As I mentioned, he’s not a picky eater, but he definitely showed a strong preference for the Petbrosia blend over his old cat food. (He ate the old stuff after the Petbrosia portion was gone, though).
Since dietary needs change as your pet gets older, Petbrosia also updates your pet’s special blend based on the naturally changing nutritional needs of your pet as he/she matures. These changes are made based on both their research and your input. That means as Yoshi gets older, Petbrosia will automatically adjust his blend for his needs. Or if he has a change to his health or nutritional needs, all I have to do is log into my Petbrosia account and update his information. I also have the option to email them or call them with changes or questions.
I also love the convenience of having Yoshi’s food delivered straight to my door. There’s also an optional auto-replenishment program – Petbrosia will keep track and send out a new box of food so that we never run out. (I’ll confess that I have, in the past, had to run to my mother-in-law’s house to “borrow” some cat food when we’ve not been paying attention and ran out). I already have a few products that I receive via auto-replenishment programs – critical things that we can’t live without like diapers, baby wipes, and coffee – and I love the convenience of it. I actually had our “other brand” of cat food set up as an Amazon subscribe-and-save delivery, but after seeing how much Yoshi loves Petbrosia and comparing the ingredients, I’ve cancelled that particular subscription. Okay, so how much does it cost? Not as much as you might expect! It goes on a price-per-pound scale, and you save more money the more you buy. You can purchase Petbrosia in 3, 5, 10, or 20 pound boxes. The prices start at $4.98/lb for a three pound box and drops to $2.99/lb when you purchase 20 pounds at a time (plus shipping & handling). You can also get free shipping (on five pounds or more) if you join the Petbrosia Gold Club. So yes, it’s a bit more expensive than buying a bag of the mid-priced cornmeal-based cat food I was buying before (which runs about $2 per pound, give or take, depending on what size and blend you buy), and it’s comparably priced to (or even less expensive than) other high-end pet foods with better, healthier ingredients for your furry family member.
