Do you love finding unique, personalized gifts to give to your friends and family? With Piczzle Photo Puzzles you can use your own photos to create custom picture puzzles! Turn your picture into a puzzle and add text to make it truly unique and personalized.
The Piczzle Personalized Picture Puzzle service was founded in May 2003 and provides made-to-order custom puzzles using your own photos. Made of the highest quality materials and meeting top quality printing standards, each image is digitally adjusted to the correct puzzle size by graphics professionals.
I was given the opportunity to review a Piczzle Puzzle (and offer one as a giveaway to my readers too!) The puzzle I received was the Medium (8 x 10”) cardboard puzzle with 30 pieces (this size also had the option to order it with 6 pieces) in the “Love U” Design. I personalized my puzzle with one of my favorite pictures of my youngest son and added his name and birthdate, with the thought that it would make a unique gift for one of his grandparents. This puzzle sells for $21.95 plus S&H.
My puzzle arrived promptly, and the personalized puzzle box (made of sturdy cardboard) was shrink wrapped. Upon removing the outer wrapping and opening the box, the individual pieces were in a ziploc baggie inside of the box. And I’m happy to say, when I put the puzzle together there were no missing pieces! (It’s horrible when you put a jigsaw puzzle together and discover that there’s a piece missing after you’ve already invested hours into the task).
The printing is very clear and high quality – especially impressive given that my camera is just a point-and-shoot so they didn’t have the highest quality photo to start with – and the edges of the puzzle pieces are sharply cut. There aren’t any of those annoying little cardboard burrs hanging off the edges. When I assembled the puzzle the pieces fit together beautifully, as you can see from my picture of the final product.
This makes a wonderfully unique gift, especially if you have a jigsaw puzzle lover in your life. It could even be fun to just give the recipient the pieces without the box so they have to put it together to see what the image is – and see how long it takes them to realize it’s of someone/something they’re familiar with! (The Piczzle website even shows a puzzle with a picture of a couple and the words “will you marry me” as the text – how adorable is that?)
I’ve taken some photographs that I’m pretty fond of, and think they’d be great for picture into puzzle designs (like the one that I use as the background of this blog, which has a special personal meaning to me). They look like some of the nature scenes you can buy in off-the-shelf puzzles, but with the special personalized touch of them being my own photography, which my mom would LOVE. I could choose to add on text to commemorate a particular holiday if I wanted to (Merry Christmas 2014, Happy Mother’s Day, etc.).
There are also several different designs/borders you can choose from: the “Love U” design that I chose, a Vibrant Red Holiday design, an Elegant Gold holiday design, or the Classic Holiday design are all options you can choose for the rectangular cardboard puzzle. You could also just use the basic design and put your own choice of border around your picture before you upload it, or go borderless.
Another neat offering: Surprise Puzzles! I’d never heard of this before, but love the idea. These puzzles are theme-cut jigsaw puzzles – they’re cut in a classic Victorian style and then select pieces are cut into shapes that reflect the theme of the picture. For example, if you have a picture of your pet that you want to turn into a puzzle, then some pieces of the Surprise Puzzle might be cut into shapes of dogs, fish, etc. Pretty neat, huh?
What really caught my attention about this company, though (besides the high quality of the product they produce), is their dedication to making a difference. They employ individuals with special needs, which means a lot to me as the mom of two children with special needs. The company also considers the environment in their production – their wooden puzzles are made of a recycled Medite Composite that’s made of pre-consumer recycled wood (90% wood fiber and 10% wood resin). This forest-friendly composite carries a forestry Chain-of-Custody certification. Additionally, they believe that learning can be most effectively achieved when humor and enjoyment are infused in the teaching, and as such are involved in a variety of educational programs, collaborate with educational organizations and institutions of learning, and have joined forces with a variety of summer-camp groups.
