Horror Block #Unboxing: June 2016

I’ve been subscribing to Horror Block (part of the NerdBlock family of subscription boxes) for about a year and a half now, and they always have great – and unusual – items for horror fans.

June was Double Funko Pop month, with one Funko POP! From Buffy the Vampire Slayer and one from The Strain. There were several different characters you could get from either franchise; I got Willow (from Buffy) and Vaun (from The Strain).

This month’s box also came with a BluRay movie – every now and then there’s a BluRay in the Horror Block. Sometimes it’s something I’ve seen before but love (the original Night HB-6-16-Movie-RueMorgueof the Living Dead was in one box – I still had a VHS copy, so it was nice to upgrade to a fancy BluRay version!) and sometimes it’s something I’ve never heard of before, like this month. TurboKid is set in the post-apocalyptic future and was featured at Sundance, Fantasia, and SXSW – should be an interesting one! (If you’ve seen this movie, let me know what you thought of it in the comments!)

Each Horror Block also comes with an issue of Rue Morgue magazine, the world’s premiere horror in culture and entertainment magazine. My favorite section of this magazine is probably Needful Things (their round-up of odd, purchasable items) – this month, one of the goodies they found is a tie with the carpet pattern from The Shining. Not that I (or my husband) ever wears ties, but if we DID, we’d buy this one for sure!

I’m super geeked about this month’s exclusive Nightmare on Elm Street item – a Freddy pillowcase (in Freddy’s iconic colors), how much fun is that?! And it’s a fancy zippered pillowcase (which I love, because my pillows are always trying to sneak out the open end of my pillowcases) AND it’s made of a soft satin-type material, nice and cool for sweet summer dreams. (Fuzzy teddy bear not included).

I love the subtlety of the shirt that came in my June HorrorBlock (and so did my husband, but fortunately he’s extra-tall so it won’t fit him so I don’t have to share!)

And speaking of awesome shirts, all Nerd Blocks now include a $10 credit to ShirtPunch! And pay attention, because even if you don’t want to use that $10 credit, I noticed when I looked at my card that there’s part of a picture on the back. And on the other side, along with the promo code, it says that if you collect the set (which is 9 different pieces – although I’m thinking that duplicates will be common and I’ll have to wait for that one rare piece to complete the puzzle), then you get a $100 ShirtPunch Gift Card! Since I’m going to keep subscribing to the Horror Block anyway, the chance to win that gift card is just an added bonus. (I do wonder if you get different “puzzle pieces” if you subscribe to more than one NerdBlock subscription box, though?)

Sign up by July 25th to get next month’s Horror Block, with first time exclusives from The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror and Psycho and also something from Friday the 13th! (And if horror isn’t your thing, they also offer Classic, Arcade, Sci-Fi, Comic, and Junior subscription boxes!) If you sign up here using my affiliate link, then I’ll get $5 towards my renewal (and I pay for this subscription out of pocket at regular price, so I’d love it if you use my link so I can get a discount next time I renew!) And once YOU sign up, you’ll get a referral link to share with YOUR friends that will get you $5 off your renewal too!
