9103-GbxlbL._SL1500_Have you ever dreamed of working from home – either to supplement your income or as your sole source of income? Sitting in front of a computer typing away, still in your pajamas, kids underfoot instead of in daycare, making your own schedule, taking time off whenever you need it? I know I did – I started this journey myself just under a year ago when my youngest son was born, but I have to admit that I had no idea what I was doing when I decided to become a work-from-home mom after more than two decades in the workforce. Had I had a book like Lisa Kroulik’s “Money Making Mamas” right from the beginning, it would have saved me a lot of false starts and mistakes on my journey!

Lisa Kroulik started working from home back in 2001. In the years since then, she’s tried her hand at various means of making money working from home, and in this book she shares her experiences (both good and bad) with the reader. While she makes it clear that you won’t get rich with her advice, what you WILL get is a flexible schedule that allows you to pick when and for how long you want to work.

Kroulik provides information and resources on various ways of earning an income from home – online writing, affiliate marketing, selling merchandise online (either from an inventory or your own creations), and working from home as a virtual assistant or medical transcriptionist. She also covers “the basics” in chapter one – things like setting up a home office, ways in which employers may pay you for your work, what equipment you’ll need, and information on paying taxes when you work from home. Each chapter that follows gives you information on a specific type of work-from-home opportunity – first in general so the reader can determine if that particular type of work would be a good match for him/her, and then in more detail if the reader wants to try it out.

An important note brought up by the author: When working from home, it’s critical to avoid scams! If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Using her book as a resource, you’ll know which companies and opportunities are legitimate, and find out how well they worked (or didn’t work) for Kroulik. (I’ve done several of the work-from-home jobs that she discusses myself, so I can personally verify that the author knows what she’s talking about). Kroulik also recommends that you trust your instincts in addition to verifying companies with the Better Business Bureau.

This book is a practical and realistic guide for anyone who desires to work from home to maintain maximum flexibility with his or her schedule. The author never promises that you will get rich following any of her suggestions. As she states in the opening pages of her book, she has “a heart for mothers who want to be at home and a passion for self-employment.” This book is appropriate for parents, students, moonlighters, and anyone else who wants to use the power of the World Wide Web to make a living. Lisa Kroulik gives you the tools, but what you do with them is completely up to you.
