Tara’s Review:

Brink of Dawn (Chosen #2)Brink of Dawn by Jeff Altabef
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read Wind Catcher (the first Chosen book) earlier this year and loved it. In fact, when I got my copy of Brink of Dawn, I thought I’d skim through the first book to refresh my memory of the story so far – and wound up re-reading the entire thing. Wind Catcher tied up most of its loose ends, but left a few dangling to ensure that I’d rush to read the next book ASAP. Some of those mysteries that were introduced in the first book are explained, or at least further explored, in this follow-up. And the ending of *this* book ensures that I’ll be eagerly awaiting the conclusion to the trilogy!

This book (as well as the first in the series) is a great blend of mystery, fantasy, sci fi, YA adventure, and Native American folklore. I have to admit, after reading an entire book from Juliet’s POV, I was so invested in her character that I lost interest in this book a little when the perspective switched to a different character entirely. Not because of any fault in the writing, but rather because Juliet has been crafted as such a strong, captivating character that I was sad to leave her behind, even temporarily. However, the introduction of the additional Chosen adds to the suspense and intrigue (and tension!) The authors do a great job with characterization, with each character having his/her own unique personality, strengths, flaws, and traits. The fast-paced plot kept my flipping the (virtual) pages right through to the end of the book, and as I suspected, I would like to read the next book NOW. I could actually see this series becoming the next “big thing” among YA readers (with star-studded movie adaptations to follow, of course).

This is another knockout from the father-daughter writing team, and I’m very much looking forward to reading the conclusion of the trilogy!

I received an e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
